From the Board of Trustees On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2010 Season of the Williamstown Theatre Festival. This season is the Festival's 56th, not a particularly auspicious or typically lauded anniversary, but here it's a true cause for celebration nonetheless. In this 56th year, we celebrate the tremendous contributions Nicholas Martin has made to the WTF in his time as Artistic Director and relish the productions he has directed (and those we hope he will direct in years to come) on the Festival's stages. This season - The American Season - and the spectacular company of performers, designers, and technicians who have assembled to create it, affirm both Nicky's vision for the Festival and the role of WTF as a home for the nation's best theatre artists. We also celebrate the future. While WTF boasts a unique history of bold theatrical artistry, the very core of the Festival has always been forward-looking. WTF's landmark training programs offer unmatched opportunities for emerging artists and help assure a strong future for the American theatre. Many Oscar, Emmy, and Tony honorees began their careers in the Apprentice ranks at WTF, so it's quite possible the next Christopher Fitzgerald may have helped paint the set you'll see tonight, and the next Gwyneth Paltrow may sell you a cup of coffee at intermission. It is this constant atmosphere of incredible possibility that makes the Festival's present all the richer. Of course, you, our audience, play a crucial role in turning this possibility into reality and we thank you deeply for your patronage and support - past, present, and future.
